The study of American history is a process of connecting the major themes and concepts that have contributed to the building of this nation. Only through an understanding of this process can we hope to maintain the freedoms and privileges that we possess as citizens.
In 1301, the history of the United States is presented, beginning with the European background and first discoveries. The pattern of exploration, settlement, and development of institutions is followed throughout the colonial period and the early National experience to 1877.

I would suggest that you come to class with a spiral and some loose leaf paper as well as your textbook. You will need some scantrons for your tests. The attached syllabi will tell you when you will be tested and the textbook that you will need. We will be using the Devine book, America: Past and Present. Many of the other CVC history professors will be using a different book, so make sure that you purchase the correct text at the book store.
